Boho Los Angeles Styled Family Shoot

I absolutely love doing styled shoots. Do they always go smoothly? Definitely not. I’ve had models cancel last minute, collaborators not participate and locations fall through. But I always seem to continue the chase, the high that I get when it all comes together like magic. My first styled family shoot was one of those. Probably one of my favorite shoots ever…here’s why!

I had the honor of capturing @missenocha and her beautiful family at an incredible boho studio in downtown LA last May. The studio is a hidden gem, literally. It’s tucked away in what seems like an almost abandoned building, with many spaces still under construction. When arriving, I almost thought I was in the wrong spot.

But the studio itself is unforgettable. Ornate rugs, vintage wicker and impressive bull skulls decorate the walls. I especially loved the lush plants that were dripping from the ceiling and the delicate white wooden partition as a perfect backdrop to a boho dream.

Of course, every amazing styled shoot needs an incredible dress, right?! I’ve been in love with Reclamation Design Co from the minute I started doing family and maternity shoots. Trista is an artist. Her dresses make everything whimsical and her dresses can be rented for a week long period at just $100. I try to get as many of my clients into her dresses as possible.

Some years back I did a group art show and met Emilie, owner of Great White Buffalo Jewelry. I was immediately in love with her handmade South Western inspired pieces and thought of her right away to help make this shoot complete. The necklace, bolo, baby cuff and men’s rings are all made by her. She’s been my go to over the years when I needed an extra special gift made. She can customize anything!

Last but not least, the matching Momma and baby flower crowns and dried florals were made by New Creations Flower Co - a talented San Diego based florist suggested by one of the other two photographers that came and joined me on this shoot.

I haven’t been able to do as many styled shoot as I would like. When busy season hits it’s hard enough to come up for air (something I need to work on this year). But I have another one in the works with a fellow photographer, and I can’t wait! If you’re interested in collaborating, modeling or shooting any future styled shoots - shoot me a DM on instagram.
